The National Teaching Council of Ghana (NTC) has scheduled 24th to 26th September, 2019 as the period for writing this year’s teachers’ license examinations across the country.

In a statement signed by the Executive Secretary of the Council, Dr. Mrs. Evelyn Owusu Oduro, registration for the examination starts from the 1st of September and ends on the 14th of September, 2019. Moreover, it is emphasized that there will be no extension in time for registration beyond the 14th September, 2019 deadline.

The statement further explained the purpose of the licensure examination indicating that “the Licensing Examination is to enable qualified teachers acquire a professional license and also prepare teachers to meet the demands of the National Teachers’ Standards of possessing the minimum knowledge, skills, values and attitudes necessary to deliver effectively in schools.”


According to the statement, all prospective candidates who hold the Diploma in Basic Education (DBE), Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) or a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), M.Ed and are desirous of seeking employment as teachers qualify to write the examinations.

Besides, the above-mentioned candidates who completed in 2019 or before 2019 also qualify to write the examination at a College of Education of their choice.

Again, newly-trained Diploma Teachers from the Colleges of Education who successfully completed in 2019 will similarly take part in this examination in their respective colleges (including Holy Spirit – Ho, St. Ambrose – Dormaa Akwamu, Methodist-Oda, Limelighter-Bia, St. Vincent – Yendi, Al Farouk – Wenchi and McCoy – Nadowli Colleges of Education).

Candidates who wrote the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination in 2018 and/or March 2019 but failed in one, two or three papers may register to re-sit the paper/papers in which they failed.

The candidates are to apply on-line at and complete the application form for the licensure examination.


The fees for the registration of the 2019 Licensure Examination is put into four different categories as follows: Fresh Candidates; Candidates who are re-sitting; Candidates who are resisting two papers and candidates who are re-sitting all three papers.

Fresh candidates are required to pay GHȻ 220.00, Candidates who are re-sitting are to pay GHȻ100.00 for one (1) Re-sit paper, Candidates who are re-sitting two (2) papers are to pay GHȻ200.00 and Candidates who are re-sitting all three (3) papers are to pay GHȻ 220.00

The NTC advised that payment of registration fees should be made at any branch of GCB Bank LTD nationwide emphasizing that candidates must notify the Bank as being fresh students or re-sitting one, two or three papers.

Candidates must also take their PIN and Serial Numbers from the Banks after payment and then log onto

Then, they must enter their e-voucher Serial Numbers and PINs to allow them to fill in all the fields including uploading their passport-size photographs. After that, they must review the information provided and click submit.

Finally, candidates must print out the summary of the inputs made and keep their PIN and Serial Numbers secure for further use after the examination.

The National Teaching Council is mandated by the Education Act 2008 (Act 778), Section 9 to improve professional standing and status of teachers and to ensure licensing and registration of teachers in Ghana.
